Human Rights

In this course, we will look into the history of Human Rights, and how these have developed over time. We will also look at the philosophical ideas that form the basis for justifying the existence of Universal Human Rights, as proclaimed by the UN. Furthermore we will study the development of international society, with the United Nations as the core institution, and to what extent the UN and other actors have the capacity to promote and protect human rights worldwide, and if there are any consequences of violating human rights. Key concepts such as genocide, international law, and national sovereignty will also be discussed, together with concrete cases and conflicts to serve as examples.
